Effective teaching is a set of numerous skills that talented teachers work hard to hone.Effective teaching nurture effective learning, effective learning is a skill set that the student or citizens develop.A vision of powerful teaching and learning in the social, i will say the way a child or citizens are being educated has a powerful impact on the kind of society they go on to build.

Cognitive research is revealing that even with what is taken to be good instruction, many students, including academically talented ones, understand less than we think they do. With determination, students taking an examination are commonly able to identify what they have been told or what they have read; careful probing, however, often shows that their understanding is limited or distorted, if not altogether wrong. This finding suggests that parsimony is essential in setting out educational goals: Schools should pick the most important concepts and skills to emphasize so that they can concentrate on the quality of understanding rather than on the quantity of information presented.

Societal value is very important to effective learning according to Maria Montessori's "Scientific observation has established that education is not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words but by experiences upon environment, and then refraining from obtrusive interference

Society and education is highly essential. For you to make a good society there must must be educated citizens in that society. The components of a society which includes family, politics, economy, religion, and education are important in a society. Education helps an individual to know the society he/she is in better. Without these components a society is not complete but education is the most important today. Look at the case of our government today, if you are not educated (computer literate) you will not be employed. That is to tell you that education is essential in a society.
Thanks.

In every society ,there exist what we call value which determines the way of life of the people and automatically their beliefs. For example the people of the northern part of nigeria place more emphasis on ,morality and its reflects in their mode of behavior even i the educational sectors so this automatically has a large influence on teaching and learning of the northerners due to the societal value placed on morality, this can be seen in their modes of dressing........LAWAL LATEEFAT...ISS/POL

Nigerians would have remained uneducated if Europeans has not introduced western education to Africa................True because the westerners brought western education though we have been experiencing our own kind of education but its not a formal type of education rather it was education to make the younger or new generation blend or adapt to the society, they brought a kind of eye opener and made the urge to compete with the outside world inevitable,so i agree that without them, nigeria would have remained uneducated......OJAOKOMO SEYI HANNAH...BIO/ISC

Societal values are very important in education.societal values which include;family, politics, economy and religion. The education of a child begins at home.here d child is taught verbally, with signals. Like the saying goes "charity begins at home" so watever the child was taught will either positively or negatively contribute to the academic success of the child. Economy is also an important societal value in education. The economy status of a society also determines the success made in education because in teaching and learning there are needs for teachers to conviniently teach and learners to assimilate properly.

LAMENTATION ON CORRUPTION said...

HIS EXCELLENCY DR. GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN LAMENTATIONS ON CORRUPTION.

SIR recently, President Goodluck Jonathan
remarked that corruption is not Nigeria’s worst
problem. But Nigerians know better.
Corruption is the reason why the refineries in
Nigeria are not working and Nigeria imports
fuel and inadvertently exports jobs. It is the
reason why Nigeria spent so much money on
power supply yet Nigerians are in darkness,
with every family that can afford it owning one
or more generators. Even Aso Rock has a
monumental budget for generators, its
maintenance and fuel.
It is unbelievable that the history of electricity
in Nigeria is over 100 years! Corruption is the
reason why planes crash in Nigeria frequently.
There was one last year, another this year.
Aren’t Nigerians silently asking themselves
when the next one will occur?
Corruption is the reason why the roads in
Nigeria are death traps. Corruption is the
reason why the banks failed in Nigeria, the
thieves walk free and government paid over N5
trillion to recapitalize the banks. Corruption is
the reason why the government doled out over
N1 trillion to its friends for fuel not imported
–sabotaging the Nigerian people and the
economy!
Corruption is the reason why about 70% of the
population live on less than $2 a day. It is the
reason why water is not running in our taps
and we are forced to sink wells or boreholes.
Corruption is the reason why billions of naira
in pensions fund was stolen and the thieves
walk free. It is at the heart of Nigeria’s
security challenges –Boko Haram, kidnapping,
armed robbery, militancy etc -with trillions of
naira paid to warlords that have been engaged
as security consultants (militancy pays in
Nigeria!). Corruption is manufactured in the
National Assembly where lawmakers use
oversight functions to demand for bribe (they
are all rich and majority of Nigerians are
poor!). Corruption is the reason why pupils do
not have good classrooms. Corruption is the
reason why the universities in Nigeria have
been shut for the fourth month running (and
the government has not been sacked).
Now, this is how. Every naira stolen has an
opportunity cost – the best schools we should
have had, water running in our taps,
uninterrupted electricity supply, universities
that rank among the best in the world, safe
country, smooth roads, safe skies, high per
capita income, good hospitals, industrial
growth, employment for the populace etc.
Corruption is the reason why Nigeria is what it
is today –the shame of the black race.
President Jonathan knows why he has chosen
to make light the issue of corruption in
Nigeria. Yes, the president and his finance
minister were right that corruption in Nigeria
is across the value chain. But they were so
very wrong to advance that as reason for the
government’s helplessness. The anti-corruption
agencies have become hopelessly inefficient
and as compromised as the people who run
Nigeria. Only a clean government can square
up to corruption. The government remains our
problem on corruption. Next time when
Nigerians go to the polls, we must not be
swayed by rhetoric, religion or tribe. We must
elect a president that has the moral authority
to fight corruption.

Learning is not only based on listening but also upon expriences and encounters . The society values are gained from family , community , peers , religion , politics e.t.c. each having its on effect on the learner . In a society where education is valued , a child from such society would do better than a child from the opposite society , so truely societal values play important role in education .

Equal access to Education remains a dream in Nigeria

From time immemorial men have dreamt of society where everyone would be equal. However egalitarian society remains a dram. All humans society from simple to complex ancient to modem, have some form of social inequality.
Education is a process which your mind is develop through learning at school . Everybody wants to be educated but not everyone can fund education because education is expensive. Individuals in Nigeria are classified into hierarchy. The number of names given to these varies with their classification some upper, middle and lower classes. Relating these concepts to the schooling system. It is obvious that all these classes are well represented in the school system, that is children in the school system may come from an upper, middle and lower class parents and these tend to reflect in the school culture.
Most people from the lower class parent find it difficult to fund their children education. That is why the government must be able to step up assume a greater role in providing equitable funding to school. There should be equal access to education in Nigeria whereby both the rich and the poor can go to school and be educated. With this everybody can contribute their quota to the growth and development of the nation. There should be a law to back this up in Nigeria so that this dream will be actualized because everybody has the right to education.

Before effective teaching and learning can take place, society value is very imortant. Because, when teaching and learning is taking place it involve two bodies: the teacher and the student. The teacher must be conversant with whatever happen in the society, he or she must be using what happened as and example in the class for the student. Example student around Lagos and you are sighting Abuja as an example. So society value is vital in effective teaching and learning.

Long before the Europeans arrived, education had been part of Nigerians. The Children were taught about their culture, social activities, survival skills and work. Most of these education processes were impacted into the children informally; a few of these societies gave a more formal teaching of the society and culture.
In these Societies, there are formal instructions that governed the rites of passage from youth into adulthood. The youth is expected to have attained the necessary social and survival skills as well as having a grounded knowledge in the culture. These are the foundations of education in Nigeria, and upon them were the western education implemented upon.
The westerners brought western education though we have been experiencing our own kind of education but its not a formal type of education rather it was education to make the younger or new generation blend or adapt to the society, bringing a kind of eye opener and made the urge to compete with the outside world inevitable.
